Muscular Dystrophy Association to Host Third Annual Flamingo Bowl in Sugar Land Area

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is scheduled to host its third annual Sugar Land Flamingo Bowl at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 20 at Stafford Lanes in the Sugar Land, Tx area.

The event is open to residents of Sugar Land and its surrounding areas.

Participants are scheduled to bowl while raising funds for ALS research and treatment for MDA families in the Greater Houston, Tx area.

Participating bowlers are asked to raise a minimum of $100.

Those who raise $100 receive a free MDA T-Shirt.

Organizers are scheduled to award trophies to the highest fundraising team, highest scoring team and the best-dressed team.

The public may make donations in cash, with check or online, and all donations are tax deductible.

Sugar Land resident Barbara Adcock founded the Flamingo Bowl and chaired it after she was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Adcock passed away in October 2011, and this year’s event will be held in her memory.

Sugar Land Cancer Center to Host Survivor Luncheon on June 1

A luncheon is scheduled to be held at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, June 1 by the Methodist Sugar Land Cancer Center in Sugar Land, Tx to celebrate National Cancer Survivor Day.

Methodist Sugar Land Cancer Center is located at 16655 Southwest Freeway.

The purpose of the event is to celebrate the fact that cancer victims may have high quality of life even after being diagnosed with the disease.

The luncheon is scheduled to last from 11:45 a.m. until 1 p.m.

All local cancer survivors, caregivers, Methodist Sugar Land Hospital physicians and anyone in support of the cause is welcome to attend the event.

Sugar Land Branch Library to hold Practice ACT on April 21

Representatives from Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions are scheduled to be at the Sugar Land Branch Library in Sugar Land, Tx from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 21 to administer free practice ACTs for students.

Students are scheduled to take the test during the first session, with a follow-up session from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 28 to review scores and learn strategies for improving future test scores.

The test takes an estimated three hours, including breaks, to complete.

Practice test-takers are welcome to bring No. 2 pencils and calculators, though TI-89s are not allowed.

The practice test is free, though seating is limited.

The city of Sugar Land, Tx is scheduled to hold a free recycling collection event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 21 in the parking lot at Mercer Stadium.

A sponsor party is scheduled to be held from 6 p.m. – 11 p.m. at Sweetwater Country Club in Sugar Land, Tx.

Sweetwater Country Club is located at 4400 Palm Royale Blvd., for the Golf for Great Houston Charity Golf Tournament that is scheduled to be held the next day.

There is scheduled to be a live and silent auction and a raffle during the party.

The Fluor Daniel-sponsored golf tournament is scheduled to begin with a lunch at 10:30 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 12 p.m. and an awards banquet at 5 p.m.
